In 1995, Dr. Alessi became a neurologic consultant to the New York Yankees. In 1997, he was named to the consulting staff for the University of Connecticut Athletic Department where he remains active. He is a consultant to the Western Sports Foundation providing care to western sports athletes. Dr. Alessi is frequently asked to evaluate many individual athletes. He also serves as a neurologic consultant to the NFL Players Association.
Dr. Alessi became involved in the sport of boxing in 1997 when he was appointed as ringside physician for the Connecticut State Boxing Commission as well as the athletic commissions of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe. Since his appointments, he has worked to improve safety in the sport of boxing. In 2009 Dr. Alessi was elected Ringside Physician of the year by the American Association of Professional Ringside Physicians. He was inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame in 2017.
Dr. Alessi published his first book, Healthy Sports: A Doctor’s Lessons for a Winning Lifestyle in 2008. He also hosts Healthy Rounds with Dr. Anthony Alessi, a weekly radio talk show on WTIC News Talk 1080 AM, the Hartford Audacy affiliate. His second book, Lift Up Your Hearts: Healing Haiti, Land of Hardship was published shortly after an earthquake devastated Haiti in 2010.
