Sports Medicine
In 1995, Dr. Alessi became a neurologic consultant to the New York Yankees. In 1997, he was named to the consulting staff for the University of Connecticut Athletic Department where he remains active. He has served as a neurologic consultant to the Connecticut Defenders (double A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants). He currently consults for the Connecticut Sun WNBA basketball team and Mohegan Blackwolves NLL indoor lacrosse team. Dr. Alessi is frequently asked to evaluate many individual athletes. He also serves as a neurologic consultant to the NFL Players Association.

Boxing
Dr. Alessi became involved in the sport of boxing in 1997 when he was appointed as ringside physician for the Connecticut State Boxing Commission as well as the athletic commissions of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe. Since his appointments, he has worked to improve safety in the sport of boxing. In 2009 Dr. Alessi was elected Ringside Physician of the year by the American Association of Professional Ringside Physicians.

Media
Dr. Alessi writes a bi-weekly column “Healthy Sports,” that appears in the Norwich Bulletin and is syndicated to GateHouse Media affiliates. Dr. Alessi published his first book, “Healthy Sports: A Doctor’s Lessons for a Winning Lifestyle” in 2008. He also hosts “Healthy Rounds with Dr. Anthony Alessi,” a weekly radio talk show on WTIC News Talk 1080 AM, the Hartford CBS affiliate. His second book, “Lift Up Your Hearts: Healing Haiti, Land of Hardship” was published shortly after an earthquake devastated Haiti in 2010.

Education
Dr. Alessi is a neurologist in private practice in Norwich, CT, since 1986. Prior to that he completed his neurology residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan. He is currently an associate clinical professor of neurology at the University of Connecticut. In 2001 he received a Masters Degree in Medical Management from the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University.
